ChatGPT: What can it do? What it cannot?

Ever since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in June 2020, there has been tremendous buzz around it. One cannot scroll any social media feed without coming across at least one post about a new use case or some other news surrounding it. One of the most popular news stories, or rather predictions, is about how ChatGPT will eventually replace Google. Some also say that it will make certain types of jobs redundant.

While all of these make for catchy headlines, it is important to take a look at the reasons why you should not remodel or devote your strategy to ChatGPT just yet. Idecutors played around with ChatGPT, asking it to perform some tasks and our observations are as follows:

1. Content Writing :
We explored the types of content ChatGPT can write for us. Although it did come up with options which are grammatically correct and in most cases, non-plagiarised, the content lacks a personal or “human” touch. While this may change in the future, we wouldn’t hold our breath.

2. Research and Analysis:
While ChatGPT might be able to come up with the names of the potential competitors in your industry, it is still not able to evaluate them as per real-world scenarios and your criteria.

3. Strategy:
ChatGPT is very good at creating content, given the right prompts. However, it does not “think” in the sense that a human does. Hence, innovative thought and strategies are not its cup of tea.

To find out what ChatGPT can actually do for us, we decided to ask the question to, you guessed it, ChatGPT itself. We asked “How can you help MSMEs in digital marketing?” and the answer was:

1. Content Creation:
I can help MSMEs create high-quality and engaging content for their digital marketing campaigns such as blogs, social media posts, and email marketing .

2. Keyword Research:
I can assist MSMEs in finding relevant keywords to optimize their website and digital content for search engines.

3. Competitor Analysis:
I can provide insights into the digital marketing strategies of MSMEs' competitors and help them identify opportunities for improvement.

4. Campaign Planning:
I can assist MSMEs in planning and executing effective digital marketing campaigns by providing tips and best practices.

5. Chatbots:
I can help MSMEs create chatbots for their websites to improve customer engagement and automate repetitive tasks.

That is something we can put to good use by pairing it with human judgement and review. While ChatGPT is not going to replace your digital marketer any time soon, it can definitely be used to speed up tasks which consume a lot of “human time”, thereby freeing us up to use our creativity and independent thought to focus on areas/tactics we can leverage to best benefit the clients. In a nutshell, it is a useful tool in the toolbox, it does not replace the human professional.
