Our 5 Year Journey

Milestones are not just markers in the path to your destination. They are also opportunities to pause and take stock of the journey so far - to look back, to make observations and learn from them.

On 17 January 2021, Idecution (Digital Marketing Agency for SMEs) completed 5 years of existence and stepped into the sixth year in a constantly evolving business environment. As we do that, it is important and useful to glean some lessons from the years gone by, as these will hold us in good stead for the future.

Just as a journey cannot be completed unless one keeps walking, success cannot be achieved if one gives up at any point of time. If there is one lesson that we have learnt, it is this - persistence pays. Brilliant skills and flashes of creativity can prime you for success, but what really takes you to your targets is plain old consistency. It may not sound glamorous, but pushing ahead honestly and untiringly almost guarantees you success over time.

Difficult times contribute to your success, too. In fact, they shape your journey more than good times do. When everything is hunky-dory, it is easy to get complacent, but when things are not so rosy, you are forced to regroup and take a fresh look at the circumstances. This often leads to innovation which would otherwise have not happened. Inevitably, it also results in newer, more effective and efficient ways of doing things.

Complacency is one of the surest recipes for failure. Staying humble and having a learner's mindset keeps you on your toes. It also teaches you many things which you otherwise might have ignored if you had considered yourself an "expert". You would be surprised at how much you can unlearn and relearn with an open mind, thus keeping you at the cutting edge.

You work for the customer, and not the other way round. Unless you put yourself in their shoes, anything that you come up with is more likely to be a reiteration of what you know and not necessarily what will work for them. If you want to know (the solutions for) their problems, you need to look at it from their point of view. Work with your customer, to work for your customer.

It is easy to get lost in the latest and greatest tools and technologies, but people are who you really work for, and they are who you really work for. Any business is in the end, really a "people business". Those who work for you, vouch for you, and stand by you when the chips are down, are your greatest strengths. No human being or a business is truly "self-made". We all stand together!

On that note, let us give ourselves a pat on the back for a job well done, and vow to keep doing even better. See you around next year!

P.S: We have captured our journey in the form of a video. In case you haven't watched it yet, check it out here: Video of Idecution's 5th Anniversary
